FISHING FROM INLAND WATER BODIES

Along with the survey on input cost of fisheries sector, a study on the inland fishing which is conducted in back waters such as rivers, lakes, reservoirs, bunds using different methods of fishing was also conducted. Several methods such as ‘cheenavala, veesuvala, ottal, fishing hook etc. are being used for fishing by the inland fishermen. The investigators were directed to select one fisherman from each category of fishing for the study in every district. Thus the details were collected in a schedule, which was designed for the purpose. A Total 60 fisherman was selected for study in the state.

It is found that 11552 Quintals of fish were caught by these fishermen valued Rs.3150049/-

The cost of fishing is comparatively less in this type of fishing. It is found that Rs.3150049/-was received as income and Rs 585420/- the expenditure.
